The return of UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi from his successful Journey into Space will leave marks on history.

For decades, astronauts have been coming back after a successful mission to Earth, making a water splashdown or a ground landing. Meanwhile, China and Russia have generally managed land touchdowns, on the contrary, sea splash downs have been opted by the United States missions. Furthermore, UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi and his three colleagues departed the International Space Station to reach the Earth after a 17-hour-long journey on the SpaceX Dragon capsule and reach the Florida coast with a sea splash down.

According to the latest updates revealed by Assistant Director General Space Operations and Exploration; Adnan Alrais appointed as the Mission Manager for the UAE Astronaut Programme, the return of UAE Sultan Al Neyadi to UAE has been scheduled after a two-week stay in Houston. The information was passed on through a teleconference by NASA, mentioning the safe splashdown of SpaceX Dragon Endeavour off the Jacksonville coast in Florida in the Atlantic Ocean. The 42-year-old Sultan Al Neyadi safely landed on Earth on Monday, at 8:17 a.m. after a 6-month-long mission in space.

The UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi will return to UAE after spending 14 days in Houston and head back after some time for further scientific experiments. Meanwhile, UAE rejoices in his return proudly and preparations are underway to celebrate the safe return of UAE’s Hero after his journey into space. His return will mark another new era in the history of UAE, after the pioneering astronaut Hazza Al Mansouri.

The festivities will entail festive celebrations, seminars, and meetings with national leaders as well as outreach activities in the city of Al Ain, which is the Sultan’s homeland.

The Commercial Crew Programme manager Steve Stich expressed the happiness and pride that the crew reflected while coming out of the Dragon capsule. It was an achievement to be a part of this mission, a great learning and scientific knowledge. He further expressed his thankfulness and appreciation to the international partners and entire team including; the US Coast Guards, rescue forces, the Department of Defence, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and most importantly the National Weather Service Department for being extremely helpful.

The safe landing of the Dragon Capsule carrying 6 Crew members back from Space

Manager of International Space Station Joel Montalbano, described the landing of the capsule as “outstanding” which means that there were no hurdles. After spending 184 days on board, in the orbiting laboratory orbiting the Earth approximately 3000 times within the span of their successful journey.

Profound research was conducted including, 250 experiments, using the latest technology. They explained the sighting of seven visiting vehicles that they have seen come and go to ISS. Furthermore, the Dragon capsule was sent back to the refurbishment facility, which is located in Florida, Cape Canaveral. The capsule brought 6 crew members, back from the space safe and sound, which is definitely an achievement.

President of UAE, Ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, congratulated the hero, the UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi for returning safely to Earth following a significant job at the International Space Station.

Rehabilitation of Crew 6 crew and Scientific Experiment completion after Return from Space

Before departing the ISS, it was mentioned by the crew that they had been vigorously craving hot showers, ocean air, and steaming cups of coffee since they arrived in space in March of the year 2023. Although there was one day delay in their homecoming, the crew reached home safely with a sea splash-down landing despite slightly poor weather constraints.

Director General of the Mohamed Bin Rashid Space Centre; Engineer Salim Al Marri mentioned that the rehabilitation of UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi will take around 45 days to enable him to regain balance in a gravity environment, walk properly, and get back to his normal life. Therefore, following the successful landing of Crew 6 crew members, the center was assigned the task of immediately taking measures to ensure rehabilitation, medical strengthening, and check-ups of the crew alongside efficacious completion of scientific experiments with the cooperation of NASA.
